Why grade matters more for water tanks
Unlike a railing that's touched occasionally, a water tank holds standing water in constant contact with the steel — 304 grade is the standard here for a reason (see our grade comparison), and cutting corners on grade shows up as contamination risk, not just a cosmetic issue.
Weld quality is critical
Every weld seam is a potential failure point for a vessel holding water under constant pressure — this is exactly the kind of fabrication where post-weld passivation genuinely matters, not just as a nice-to-have finishing step.
Food-grade and potable water considerations
If the tank is for drinking water, ask specifically about food-grade finish and certification — this is a case where you should not accept a generic answer from a fabricator and should get specifics in writing.
