What CNC bending does
A CNC press brake bends sheet metal to programmed angles with repeatable accuracy — far more consistent than manual bending, which matters when a project needs twenty identical components rather than one.
Tube and pipe bending is a different process
Curved handrails and circular railing sections use tube bending rather than sheet bending — the challenge here is avoiding kinks or flattening at the bend, which requires correct tooling matched to the pipe's diameter and wall thickness.
Why bend radius matters
Steel can only bend so tightly before it cracks or deforms at the bend — a very tight radius on thick material simply isn't achievable, which is why a fabricator may push back on a design that looks fine on paper. This is a genuine material limit, not reluctance.
What this means for your design
Share your drawings early. Design details that need adjustment for bend feasibility are far cheaper to catch at drawing stage than after material has been cut — see our lead times guide for how design revisions affect schedule.
