Weight and structural strength
Aluminium is significantly lighter than stainless steel, which can simplify installation on structures with limited load capacity — but that lightness also means less inherent rigidity, so aluminium sections are often bulkier to match the strength of a slimmer steel section.
Cost
Aluminium railing systems (often extruded, pre-finished profiles) can be more budget-friendly than custom-fabricated stainless steel, especially for standard, repeatable designs.
Finish and premium feel
Stainless steel generally reads as more premium and substantial — the material itself has weight and solidity that anodised aluminium doesn't quite replicate, which is why high-end residential and commercial projects lean toward steel despite the cost difference.
Custom fabrication
Aluminium is typically used with pre-made extruded systems; stainless steel is easier to custom-fabricate into bespoke designs, curves and decorative patterns — if you want something genuinely one-of-a-kind, steel gives a fabricator more freedom.
Our honest take
For a fully custom, premium-feeling railing, stainless steel is usually the better choice. For a straightforward, budget-conscious, standard-profile railing, aluminium is a legitimate alternative — just not something we currently fabricate ourselves.
