Weight is the first constraint
Gate automation motors are rated for a maximum weight and width. A heavy decorative gate that would be fine as a manual gate may exceed what a standard motor can reliably drive — so automation needs deciding at design stage, not bolted on later.
Sliding vs swing
Sliding gates need clear side track space and a level running surface; swing gates need clear arc space and level ground through the full swing. Site constraints usually decide this more than preference does — worth measuring properly per our gate measurement guide.
What we do and don't handle
We fabricate the gate itself — structure, panels, finish (see our door and gate fabrication guide). The motor, sensors and control electronics come from automation specialists; we build to accommodate their hardware, and coordinate on mounting requirements. We're upfront that the automation system itself isn't our own product.
Plan power and safety early
Automated gates need a power supply at the gate location and safety sensors to prevent closing on a person or vehicle — both are far easier to arrange during construction than retrofitted afterward.
