Fittings rarely get specified as carefully as the main material, but they're what an installer actually handles on-site every day. Here's a working reference.
Pipe joinery fittings
Elbows (angle changes), tees (branch connections) and couplers (straight joins) let pipe runs turn corners and branch without visible welds — important for a clean architectural look.
Railing-specific fittings
Base plates anchor posts to floors or steps; handrail brackets fix a rail to a wall; glass clamps and spigots hold glass infill without a full frame. Each is sized to match the pipe/glass dimension it's holding — not universal, so specify sizes together.
A note on matching finish
Fittings should match the finish of the main railing (mirror fittings on a mirror railing, brushed on brushed) — mismatched fittings are one of the more common finishing mistakes we see corrected after the fact. Confirm this explicitly when ordering.
