What it is
An anti-fingerprint (AFP) coating is a thin, typically clear treatment applied over the stainless steel finish that reduces how visibly oils and fingerprints show up on the surface — commonly used on high-touch elevator interiors and appliance-grade sheet.
Where it's most useful
- Elevator cabin interiors (see our elevator sheet options) — heavily touched, hard to clean constantly
- Door handles and push plates in commercial buildings
- Dark PVD finishes specifically, which show fingerprints more visibly than lighter tones
What it doesn't change
AFP coating is a surface treatment, not a substitute for grade selection or base finish quality — it reduces visible smudging, it doesn't add corrosion resistance or change the underlying steel properties.
Asking for it
If you're specifying high-touch surfaces (elevator interiors, handles), ask specifically whether AFP-treated sheet is available for your order — it's a worthwhile upgrade for genuinely high-contact applications.
